Originally a student at Brighton Polytechnic in the 1970’s, where she studied fashion and textiles, specialising in knitwear design, Noelle Barnett's keen interest in art led to a return to studies, and a BA (Hons) Fine Art from the Arts Institute, Bournemouth, (now the Arts University College, Bournemouth).
Her work is currently focused on painting and she is hoping to pursue an MA in Fine Art to further investigate contemporary portraiture.
Noelle's paintings and drawings blend the boundaries between high and low culture, and are appropriated from images in magazines and the Internet. A collector of pictures and text, with a fascination for the mundane or ‘over-looked’, her work comments on the ubiquitous images that fill our lives, placing them into the realms of ‘Fine Art’ through the tradition of oil paint on canvas.
Identity, memory and a narrative sub-text are key, and the works intellectually and emotionally challenge the viewer.
