The book MODEL (The ugly business of beautiful women), by Michael Gross, looks at the manipulation of women physically, mentally and photographically. The book is illustrated with many photographs of Models and the people behind them; ‘a vast army of photographers, designers, stylists, agents, publicists, fashion editors and advertisers- an entire industry dedicated to desire.’
We live in a world where the power of the image is constant. Digital photography and the Internet have a huge influence upon our lives. Over a decade later than its publication, I have used collage to further comment on the beauty and celebrity culture in which we live.
This work, exhibited at Bournemouth Library, in 2009, was part of "Altered Expectations' , a group exhibition of altered books, and references work by John Stezaker and Linder.
